Asia to North America: Swimming from the Big Diomede Island (Russia) to the Little Diomede Island (US)
There are six possible one-day, human open water swims between the 7 continents in the world. Madswimmer completed the sixth and final such a swim in a row in July 2014. This stage was always going to be tough. Irrespective of the geography, logistical challenges, sea animals or any other hurdle, when swimming across international borders in unchartered territory, gaining permission is by a mile the hardest part. It was an unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience. The team consisted of Milton Brest, Marius de la Rey, Jean Craven, Hardi Wilkens and Duncan Kukard who swam the full distance, and Ryan Stramrood who did an ice swim (without wet suit). They were supported by Mona van Eeden.
