As a token of their appreciation for the local support they received, the team members of the 2014 Bering strait challenge decided to make a once-off contribution, towards the wonderful work of the Chukotka Red Cross Organization.
Chukotka Autonomous District Branch of the All-Russia Public Organization “Russian Red Cross” (Red Cross of Chukotka) is a voluntary public association operating in accordance with the philosophy of the International Red Cross and the Russian Red Cross Organizations. The major goals of their activity are:
- Protection of people’s life, health and dignity;
- Performing humanitarian and charity activity;
- Promoting respect to human personality.
The Red Cross of Chukotka was founded on 16 September 1993 and now there are more than 400 members in the organization. The Red Cross of Chukotka carries out various regional and charter programs within the territory of the Chukotka Autonomous District. They are aimed at solving the local social problems, such as prophylaxis of social diseases, support of local citizens’ voluntary activity, providing assistance to people in difficult circumstances.
For many years the Red Cross of Chukotka has been involved into different humanitarian and charity projects and programs, among which are the following:

2009-2010 “Life-Long Health marathon” (a grant program of the Non-commercial organization “Cupol” Social Development Fund)
2011 “Helping other help yourself” (a grant program of the Non-commercial organization “Cupol” Social Development Fund)
2011 “I dream, I achieve!” (a grant program of Chukotka Social Policy Department)
2012 “Yakov Marshak’s Methods and Rehabilitation Center” (a grant program of Chukotka Social Policy Department)
2012-2013 “Establishing a constructive life strategy of the Chukotka population” (a grant program of Chukotka Social Policy Department)
2013 “Mentors’ School” (a grant program of the Non-commercial organization “Cupol” Social Development Fund)
2013 “Step by Step” (a grant program of Chukotka Social Policy Department)
- First Aid Program aimed at teaching people how to behave in emergencies and during natural, ecological, industrial and other disasters and overcome their consequences.
- Donorship Program aimed at involving people of Chukotka into the donor movement by propagating donorship in mass media, companies, educational institutions, organizing free donorship acts.
“Prophylaxis of Social problems of the family, children and young people of Chukotka”: subprograms “Mercy and Charity”, “Difficulties of Advanced Age”, “Prophylaxis of Social Diseases”.
In 2014 the Red Cross of Chukotka is dealing with programs aimed at rehabilitation of families in difficult circumstances, organization of summer vacations for orphan children and teenagers, improvement of the life standard of unemployed elderly people and disabled people in Chukotka.
