This year, they are swimming again for a massive cause.

Madswimmer joins forces with the Pan American Colibri Swim Team to cross the Mexican Border.

In November last year, Madswimmer took to the Dead Sea in a World record breaking swim to raise awareness to the rapid depletion of this incredible natural resource.

In another International collaboration, two of our Madswimmers (Jean Craven and Neill Macaskill) will join forces with a team of 12 on 5th May 2017, to help alleviate the suffering of individuals whose family members have died while crossing the US-Mexico border. The swimmers, hailing from five nations, will also be fundraising for the Colibrí Center for Human Rights, a family advocacy organization working to end migrant death and related suffering of children and families along this border.

The Pan-American Colibrí Crossing (https://www.panamericancolibriswim.com) is set to make waves as they attempt the 10km swim, from Imperial Beach south of San Diego, California, across the USA – Mexican maritime border in the Pacific Ocean, to Tijuana, Mexico. They depart on 5 May 2017 at 08h30 off the coastline near the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve on Imperial Beach in California, USA and aim to arrive on the shores of Mexico at 12h30.

Among them, the 12 swimmers have completed a number of cross-border swims (England-France, Scotland-Northern Ireland, Israel-Jordan, Cyprus-Israel, USA-Canada, Spain-Morocco), swum across many of the world’s major channels, and have achieved the Oceans Seven, Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, and the highest swim in the world during their myriad aquatic acts.

The expected legacy of this swim is to enable the Colibrí Centre for Human Rights to continue its work on a larger scale and to inspire swimmers from all walks of life to understand, appreciate and attempt to resolve political, cultural, social differences that may separate them from others.

Madswimmer is a South African non-profit company that was founded by Jean Craven in 2009. Since its inception, Madswimmer has successfully completed all 6 recognised intercontinental swims as well as various other open water swims – all in aid of charity. They have raised nearly R4million for charitable causes – all intended to inspire hope and enable opportunity inn South African children’s lives.
